The most common supplements (that I see recommended) to help with atopic dermatitis (eczema), are omega-3 (fish oil, hemp, flax seed, etc), probiotics and prebiotics.

*Omega-3

I do feel that omega-3s help to maintain my skin health and keep inflammation at bay. According to the National Library of Medicine, “omega-3 PUFA metabolites, including resolvins, are known to demonstrate strong anti-inflammatory effects during allergic and inflammatory diseases; however, little is known regarding the actual impact of these metabolites on skin diseases.”1 Even though I haven’t seen reliable peer-reviewed data to support, from a broadly objective evidentiary standpoint, that Omega-3s directly help my eczema, my individual experience has been that it does. Also, the benefits of their anti-inflammatory properties have been proven and I do not know of any side effects. So, it’s part of my daily routine.

*Probiotics and prebiotics

There is evidence that prebiotics and probiotics, which improve gut health, can improve eczema symptoms.2
